The Stevens Reservoir Expansion Project

The first phase of this project, The Dutton Ditch Pipeline and intake structure (pictured below left), was completed in the fall of 2006 and is the primary source through which gravity flow water is delivered to Hatcher and Stevens Lakes. Since it was put into use in November 2006, it has enhanced the District's raw water delivery system and assisted in the filling of the downstream reservoirs. The second phase of this project is the expansion of Stevens Reservoir. As the 2007 photo below shows, this lake has been drained and is undergoing the required drying out period before construction can begin.

At its current full capacity Stevens holds approximately 624 acre-feet of water. The expansion project calls for more than doubling the size of this reservoir. A 404 Permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has been issued and plans have been submitted to the state engineers office for approval. It has taken numerous studies, surveys, and consultations by various entities to get to this point. Following permitting approval from the various agencies, the time frame for completion of the Stevens Reservoir project is dependant on a number of conditions which include weather, reservoir levels, and time of year. Construction began in the fall of 2007 and we are hopeful that completion of the project could occur in October 2008 and, with a bountiful winter, that the reservoir will be filled to meet the customer water demand of summer 2009.
